Ten days. Countless moments. This is a road trip through Morocco that takes you deeper. We’re not just stopping at the highlights. We’re moving through the country from city to desert and back again, with each day unfolding into something new. From the blue-washed steps of Chefchaouen to the glowing stillness of the Sahara, you’ll experience Morocco’s richness in a way that feels both grounded and unforgettable.

We’ll explore ancient medinas, sip mint tea with locals, wander through spirited souks, dance to the rhythm of Gnawa drums, and rest beneath the stars in luxury desert tents. There’s time for movement and stillness. For learning, laughing, shopping, and just breathing it all in. This trip is not a whirlwind. It’s a thoughtful experience built around connection: to the culture, the people, and each other.

Itinerary

Touchdown, City Beats & Coastal Breezes: Your Moroccan road trip begins in Casablanca, a city where bold energy meets coastal ease. After airport pickup, we’ll take time to explore its modern heart: think wide boulevards, seaside strolls along the Corniche, and a visit to the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque perched over the Atlantic. After soaking up the city’s pulse, we’ll head to Rabat for the night, where a welcome dinner awaits and the journey officially begins.

Approx. Drive Time: 2 hours

Today begins in Rabat, Morocco’s stately capital, where centuries of history meet coastal charm. With your local guide leading the way, you’ll wander through the walled beauty of the Oudaia Kasbah, a fortress-within-a-city that feels like stepping into another time. You’ll visit the striking Mausoleum of Mohammed V and stand beneath the towering remnants of Hassan Tower, an ambitious dream of what was meant to be the world’s largest mosque. One of the most fascinating stops is the Chellah Necropolis, a site layered with both Roman and Islamic ruins that quietly whisper stories of Morocco’s complex past.

We’ll journey through the scenic Rif Mountains, trading the imperial cityscape for the soft blue hues of Chefchaouen. Snuggled against the hillside, this postcard-perfect town greets us with cobblestone charm, cool mountain air, and a sense of calm that feels like a dream.

Approx. Drive Time: 4 hours

After breakfast, we’ll explore the magic of Chefchaouen (The Blue City), a city painted in dreamy blues and tucked into the mountains. With deep Andalusian roots, this hillside haven became a refuge during the Spanish Inquisition, and its quiet streets still carry that sense of resilience and beauty. You’ll join a guided walk through the medina, stop at Ras El-Ma where the mountain spring bubbles into town, and take in sweeping views during a short hike to the old “Spanish” mosque overlooking the valley.

Later, you’ll have plenty of time to wander on your own, browsing for handmade goods, capturing the iconic blue alleyways, or settling into a peaceful café with a Moroccan mint tea in hand. As the sun dips behind the hills, we’ll begin our journey to the historic city of Fes, where a new chapter of discovery awaits.

Approx. Drive Time: 4 hours

Today, we explore Fes, a city that feels like a living museum. Its walled medina is one of the most complete medieval Islamic cities in the world, with narrow alleyways, sky-high walls, and a deep sense of history in every step.

Our guided walking tour takes you through the heart of it all. You’ll visit Place an-Nejjarine with its beautiful fountain and historic caravanserai, stroll past 14th-century merchant stalls, and see the striking dye pits of the city’s iconic tanneries. We’ll pass the grand Qayrawan Mosque and wander through spice-filled souks where the scent of saffron and rose water lingers in the air. The day also includes time to explore at your own pace, whether that’s shopping, relaxing at a café, or simply soaking in the energy of this unforgettable city.

We’ll hit the road early today for one of the most scenic drives of the trip, and trust us, it’s worth every mile. From the cool cedar forests of the Middle Atlas to the palm-dotted valleys of the south, you’ll watch Morocco’s landscapes shift in real time. Along the way, we’ll make stops in Ifrane (nicknamed “Little Switzerland”), pass through the charming towns of Midelt and Erfoud, and wind down through the breathtaking Ziz Valley.

By late afternoon, we’ll reach Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara. Here, we’ll trade wheels for camels and head off into the dunes caravan-style, led by local Berber guides. As the sun begins to set, you’ll arrive at your private tented camp tucked in the sand, with the stars above and silence all around.

Approx. Drive Time: 7–8 hours (with scenic stops)

After breakfast, we’ll trade our desert camp for 4x4s and make our way back to Merzouga to reconnect with our driver. Along the route, we’ll stop in Khamlia Village, home to the Gnawa people, descendants of West African communities brought to Morocco generations ago through the trans-Saharan slave trade. Through music and sacred rhythm, they’ve preserved their culture and history, and we’ll get a chance to witness a powerful performance rooted in healing and heritage. From there, we’ll continue our drive toward the lush Draa Valley, lined with date palms and ancient kasbahs, where we’ll spend the night surrounded by desert charm and peaceful stillness. Approx. Drive Time: 4.5 hours

After breakfast, we’ll journey west toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Door to the Desert,” and stop at the iconic Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that feels frozen in time. This earthen fortress has been the backdrop for films like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Mummy. Walking through its narrow passageways, it’s easy to imagine the stories this place has held over centuries of trade and tradition.

From there, we’ll head toward Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The winding drive is one of the most scenic in the country, offering sweeping views of terraced valleys, Berber villages, and, depending on the season, snow-dusted peaks.

Approx. Drive Time: 4 hours

This experience is moderately to highly active, with plenty of walking and some longer drives to fully explore Morocco’s diverse landscapes. Expect several days of walking, sometimes up to 5 miles, often in warm weather. Driving days can be long, including stretches of 7–9 hours, but these are part of the adventure and allow access to sights many tours skip. The trip is crafted to be rich and memorable, and while all activities are included, you are free to participate at your own pace.

We stay in 4-star boutique accommodations, including riads: traditional Moroccan guesthouses with intricate architecture and cozy courtyards. Room layouts and amenities may vary, but each stay is selected to create a memorable experience. Double and single occupancy options are available. Solo travelers choosing double occupancy will be paired based on preferences; if unmatched 90 days prior, the single occupancy supplement will apply. Traveling with a friend? Let us know at registration so you can room together.

Male travelers: We welcome both men and women on our trips. That said, due to the typical guest makeup, groups often have a higher ratio of female travelers. Solo male guests are required to book a single occupancy package to ensure a comfortable experience for everyone, while male travelers with a friend are welcome to select double occupancy.

Private overland transport is included throughout the trip. This ensures a seamless road trip experience as we travel between cities, the desert, and other sites, while keeping the group connected and comfortable.

Most meals are included: 9 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 2 dinners. Meals typically come with water, and soft drinks or alcohol are not included unless specified. You’ll experience authentic Moroccan cuisine, from tagines to freshly baked bread. During the registration process, we collect all dietary needs and restrictions to ensure the kitchen is aware and can accommodate wherever possible. While we do our best to meet dietary requirements, travelers should be prepared for traditional, culturally immersive meals.

Guests must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the last day of the trip, with at least two blank pages. For U.S. citizens, no visa is required for stays under 90 days for tourism purposes, though proof of onward travel may be requested. Airlines or officials may deny boarding or entry if passport requirements are not met.

Travel insurance is not included, but we strongly recommend it, particularly “cancel for any reason” coverage. This helps protect against unexpected medical or family emergencies and allows recovery of non-refundable trip expenses. We partner with Faye Travel Insurance to provide our guests with trusted options and guidance for securing the coverage that best fits your needs.

Please fly into Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) and depart from Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). International airfare is not included. After you register, our team will provide detailed flight guidance, ideal times, and booking tips. Please wait to book your flights until you receive our email with instructions to ensure your travel aligns perfectly with the itinerary.

Yes! Guests will receive pre-trip emails and a virtual meeting to help you prepare, answer questions, and ensure you feel confident and ready for your journey.

Each trip offers a unique payment option. You can choose to pay for your trip in full, secure your spot with a down payment, then set up a monthly plan. Monthly payments will be automatically drafted every 30 days from the date of your registration until the trip is fully paid.

Guests have 24 hours from booking to cancel for a full refund. After that, deposits are non-refundable. For complete details, including special promotions and exceptions, please review our Group Trips Terms & Booking Conditions. We also recommend travel insurance for added protection.

Tips are not included in your trip price. We recommend budgeting around $100–$150 USD for local staff and service teams who help make your experience seamless and memorable. Your trip host will collect tips at the end of the journey to ensure proper distribution. PLEASE NOTE: our trips are designed with a focus on respect and gratitude for the people who make your experience possible. If tipping or showing appreciation for service is a concern, this may not be the right experience for you.

This trip involves walking several miles on some days, uneven terrain, desert activities, and long drives, so it’s important to review the full itinerary carefully to determine if you are physically able to participate. At this time, we are not equipped to provide hands-on support for guests with special medical or mobility needs.

Please note that medical facilities abroad may not meet the same standards as those in your home country, and travel in remote areas may involve risk of injury, sickness, or other dangers. We encourage all guests to assess their health and fitness in advance and secure appropriate travel insurance.

While any traveler 21 and older can join our trips, most participants are typically between 30 and 60 years old. Age is just a number; what matters most is being comfortable with the trip’s pace and activities.
